Eastern Cape News
The EC has a new spirit of activities and a feeling of “being part of” a big family. Not only did we increase our membership numbers, but made sure that the message of sport after transplantation, as well as organ donation get the emphasis these aspects deserve.
We have increased our membership to 10 members, thanks for the efforts of Sr. Leoni Swanepoel from Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth. The two key representatives are Heilie Uys in the Western part of the EC and Robyn Emslie in the Eastern part of the EC.
The EC Region was again represented at the World Transplant
Games in Sweden by Robyn Emslie and Heilie Uys. Robyn needs to be congratulated with her transformation from lawn bowls to ten pin bowling and the exceptional way in which she was finally placed in this event at the Games.
Heilie won gold in ball throw and golf, silver in javelin and
discuss and bronze in shot put.
Numerous awareness campaigns are constantly taking place in the EC and we thank Marcia Faurie, the PE Transplant Coordinator for all her efforts, love and support and to be always available to participate in these events. We also congratulate her on being awarded the “Most Caring Practitioner of Netcare”. As she is moving from 1st January 2012 to Durban, we are sad to see her go
but are excited to know that she will be an enormous asset in the KZN Region.
